The snow, sleet and freezing temperatures of winter are gone and just about forgotten — for now — the beautiful weather of spring has arrived, and you just can’t wait to start enjoying the outdoors. Is a road trip in your family’s future? Is it time to take your bikes out of the garage and exercise your legs and lungs? The answer to these questions probably is a resounding “yes,” but before you start exploring in your family vehicle, you might want to take a look at the accessories that are certain to make the journey a little easier and a little more enjoyable.

According to Lynn Morrison, parts manager at Anderson-Weber Toyota in Dubuque, Iowa, until recently, Toyota owners who wanted to add a roof rack or a bike rack to their vehicle had to pay a visit to a local store that carried these items. That is no longer the case.

“We started carrying Yakima products about a year-and-a-half ago,” says Morrison. “They have different kinds of luggage carriers and a couple of nice bike racks that can hold two or three bikes.”

Morrison points out that bike racks are popular items this time of the year. “Obviously, in the Midwest, you can’t ride your bike in the winter, but, in the spring and summer, you’re going to get outdoors. We have some nice bike trails here in the Dubuque area.”

She says she keeps a large number or bike racks in stock and that they are actually less expensive than if you choose to order them online. Bike racks are big sellers in the spring and summer, and roof racks also are useful so you’ll have more space inside your vehicle during summer vacation trips. But Toyota dealers carry a variety of other accessories that make life a little easier or make your car or truck look a little sharper, especially if you’ve spent the winter driving through snow, ice, slush, salt and sand.

“We sell a lot of door moldings and touch-up paints. People like to detail their cars and trucks because vehicles sell better this time of the year — or they just want to get rid of all the salt and grime and have their vehicles look better in the spring,” Morrison says.

Other accessories that are available include car mats; all-weather floor liners; cargo nets, cargo liners and cargo totes; door edge guards, which help prevent chipped paint; mud guards; paint protection film, which helps protect a vehicle’s paint finish from chips and scratches; first aid kids and emergency assistance kits; and tablet holders. There even are accessories designed especially for certain makes and models, such as adventure cross bars, which help secure outdoor gear such as skis or kayaks on top of RAV4 Adventure models.
